“Being grounded”
What does being grounded mean to you?
This could make you think of a punishment while growing up; Doing something that put you or maybe others at risk, maybe a selfish act. Something that was not acceptable… for some of us we would end up as being told we were not allowed to go out and be with friends and things we enjoy to be taken away from us. As the parent what was the reason for grounding? Was it just to stop your child from being out and to take enjoyment from them or was there more to it?
Grounding on a mindful level is the act of being present, being in the here and now. To be aware of the environment around you. Mainly to allow you to have a break from being lost in thoughts or an emotion… So you become relaxed… Allowing your body to feel being ‘connected’ to what is actually happening rather than what you ‘think’ is happening.
Is being grounded in both terms actually the same thing? Where am I really? How does it feel? Why I do I feel this way about it? What am I grateful for?
An act of reflection. After all how are we ever meant to see if we dont stop to look? To pay attention.
Grounding is a way to reconnect to our true self. To feel the real you. To understand what you have around you and be grateful for it.
